This romantic fairytale castle has been the home of the Thanes of Cawdor since 1370. Although perhaps best known for its literary connection to Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth, the castle was built many years after the 11th-century King Macbeth. Surrounded bylovely gardens and wooded riverside trails, it is just a few miles drive between Nairn and Inverness.

Situated just outside Inverness, it is an easy day trip from Cawdor House in Nairn.
Set at the tip of the Black Isle and at the mouth of the Cromarty Firth, Cromarty is the Highlands' best preserved historic town. Visit the award-winning museum or take a boat trip to see the dolphins. From the top of the hill you have an amazing views over the Moray and Cromarty Firths.
Visit the community of Catholic Benedictine monks in the only mediaeval British monastery still being used for its original purpose. Pluscarden Abbey is only 20 miles from Nairn.
Chanonry Point on the Black Isle is now a world-famous location for dolphin-watching. It sits on the Moray Firth near Rosemarkie Bay (golf course and coastal walks), opposite historic Fort George.
Dunearn Burn Walk
This popular walk through the Darnaway Forest follows the gorge carved out by the River Findhorn. A lovely walk of around two hours.
Lochindorb (from the Gaelic Loch nan Doirb meaning "loch of the minnows") is a freshwater loch south of Nairn. The ruins of Lochindorb Castle, a former stronghold of the Clan Comyn, sit on a small island. This is a popular spot for fishing and birdwatching, but remains a quiet and mysterious place.
An oasis of peace in this RSPB nature reserve just along the coast from Nairn. There are plenty of easy walking trails through this beautiful pine forest and sandy dunes. Don't miss like the Hill 99 trail with its trig point and the wooden tower with amazing views above the treetops.
